Our Company

Our motivation

“We live at a time when emotions and feelings count more than truth, and there is a vast ignorance of science.”

Professor James Lovelock

SRL believe that the recent Global Financial Crisis is now being frighteningly shadowed by the worsening threat of Climate Change and an imminent energy crisis in the UK. Transferring money from the Bank of England has put the finger in the dyke of the financial crisis for now, but a repeat bail-out performance will not provide electricity for us when the energy deficit widens and the lights go out.

Government relying on Private Sector

The Government is now desperately looking to the private sector to fund energy projects and is now £1.3 trillion worse off than it was a year ago. Government knows the science but they are allowing emotions and feelings to count more than truth. Unfortunately, they want someone else to do the hard work for them. Impeccable theory and grand speeches have systematically been followed by imperfect implementation. Government credibility is not strong at present.

Our size

SRL believe the future in the UK, now lies with small dynamic companies having global vision, local focus and the ambition to achieve great things on the ground. For UK’s energy future, results will certainly come as these small companies interact fervently with big utility giants to create low carbon energy installations which Government has failed to precipitate over the past 10 years. SRL believes that it is a small company which falls into this category. It has a Board of Directors of 3 (headed by a Chairman) and 3 employees on the payroll. It is funded by Private Equity Investors (no public assistance) and its lack of big overheads allow it to direct more resources to the benefit of customers and communities, and to operate in a much more agile, flexible and personable way. The Company was incorporated on 1 November 2007 and successfully achieved the strategic objectives laid down in its business plan for its first 18 months of operation. It’s vision remains to combat climate change by proliferating renewable energy in the UK.

Our beliefs

What drives SRL is the recognition of the need for ambitious and urgent action on the ground. Change doesn’t happen simply because leaders want it to happen, but because people in communities make it happen. The dynamics in the Energy Industry are no different. For energy, the global situation is easily stated. On current trends the world will need at least 50 % more energy in 2030 than it does today. Fifty per cent more energy is a lot more than it’s got in the tank. In the Global Pollution League the UK has the infamous distinction of not only being the first to burn coal on a large scale (industrial revolution), but also having historically produced the greatest amount of CO2 emissions per capita in the world. Indeed, Coal combustion is 80% of the current Climate Change problem. Replace coal combustion with Renewable Energy, to produce electricity, and you’ve broken the back of the climate change problem. To keep the UK energised and powered and to compensate for not only the exhaustion of North sea Oil and Gas, but also the closure of Coal-fired and Nuclear Power Stations, we desperately need a coherent energy strategy which exploits the massive potential of the Sun, Wind, Waves and the Tides. Furthermore, we need it to be implemented soon. SRL believes that top of the ‘need-to-do’ list is the generation of Renewable Energy. Top of the Renewable Energy List is the construction of another 30 – 35,000 Megawatts of Wind Power Capacity. Feasible? In 1800, there were over 10,000 windmills in the UK. Since 1800 the UK population has increased six-fold, but the number of operational wind powered devices has decreased to under 2,500: a quarter of the number developed by our forefathers. And yet the wind blows pretty much the same way that it did in 1800. SRL believe that we’ve failed to exploit a resource which is right under our noses. Especially when scientific analysis tells us that the UK has the best wind resource in Europe.

Our mission

Simple arithmetic says that if nothing is done by 2015 the UK will be short of Electrical power for the equivalent of 4.55 million homes. SRL believes we should be very, very worried about that. Our stated vision is to combat climate change and a UK Energy shortfall by proliferating renewable energy in the UK. Our mission is to nurture as many profitable renewable energy projects as we can to make this vision a reality. We’re well under way. Contact us if you want to know more.
